Chine Colle

Chine Colle is a process of colouring my etches. You use little bits of tissue then put spray mount on them and then run it through the press with your copper plate.
This is much more fiddely than it sounds :p

First you have to cut or rip your tissue to size;

This was my first idea of how to colour it. Roger simply laughed at this and said it would drive me insane!
So instead I just used two pieces of brown for my first attempt.
-Ink up the plate as normal
-Put spray mount on the top of the tissue.
-Face the tissue glue side up on the copper (in the press ready to be rolled)
Ta da! This one was quite easy, I wasn't worried about it not being perfectly registered, and as the two pieces of tissue aren't touching it was easy enough to place them on the copper.

Next I tried a couple of colours, and tried overlapping them. Such a bad idea! When I came to putting them on the copper plate they all wanted to stick to me or each other instead of just sit there. It took me about ten minutes to finally put them all vaguely in the right place!

I do like how vibrant the colours come out in this process. I also like how you still get the aqua tinting shades over the top.
